Local D-Tools project folder restrictions
When setting your local D-Tools projects folder on your desktop (in Navigator > Setup > Application Settings > Project > Project Folder, it is important to avoid certain folder locations that can cause instability and loss of data. These include:
1. Windows Desktop
This helps to avoid stability issues with MS Windows that could arise when using the desktop as a file storage location.
2. My Documents
While the important D-Tools project files are stored in subfolders, there are also D-Tools files that get stored in your root project directory. If this is your My Documents folder, these files could get mixed with other documents in this folder, leading to greater likelihood that an important file will go missing.
3. Network Drive
While SI5 will function when storing data on a network drive, this is to be avoided since the program will be unable to run should the remote drive be unavailable. For this reason D-Tools strongly recommends that your local project folder NOT be on a shared drive if at all possible.
Also, keep in mind that it is important to not use Windows explorer to manage your project files. Use the file management features of SI5 in the Navigator.
