10 Things You Need to Know

I don’t know about you, but I like it when things are straight forward and simple. I’m a fan of bullet points and just what you need to know – with pointers on what to do and what not to do. There is a TV show on DIY network (love that channel) called “10 Things You Must Know“. The show outlines the top 10 things you need to be aware of when doing any project. Makes sense – just tell me what I need to know to get the job done (thank you Cliff Notes!)

So this sparked an idea – wouldn’t it be nice to have something like this for D-Tools? It would be a series of straightforward quick start guides to the most common aspects of System Integrator 5.5. Over several months I plan to consult and compile what the D-Tools team as a whole feels are the must knows of the software. The whole idea is for new and existing users to take advantage of our years of knowledge and experience with System Integrator and capitalize on it.

Here are my initial thoughts on “10 Things You Need to Know” topics:

  • Before buying D-Tools
  • Getting Started/Installation
  • Setup/Configuration
  • Data
  • Doing proposals
  • Designing in Visio
  • Designing in AutoCAD
  • Reporting Center
  • Custom Reporting
  • Change Orders/Revisions
  • Project Management
  • Integrating with QuickBooks

Also, I must mention that these are not intended to replace our User Guides. This is simply a “highlights reel” and will point to more complete areas of the guide after the summaries. I realize that some people will just never sit down and read our entire User Guide – so hopefully they will at least spend a few minutes on the Top 10, then want to read more.
