Critical SI5.5 Update Notice

Submitted by on 03/02/2009 – 11:33 pm28 Comments

Dear Valued Customer,

We have completed our phased roll out of the SI5.5 upgrade. Currently all customers using SI5 are now able to upgrade to SI5.5.

To upgrade, select “Check for Server Updates” by going to Start\All Programs\D-Tools\Check for Server Updates and you will see that the SI5.5 server upgrade is available. You must upgrade the server before any desktop clients are upgraded. Please follow the upgrade instructions as indicated below.

As with any software upgrade it is extremely important to back up your files prior to the upgrade process. Please do not skip this step.

Thanks and best regards,

Steve Collard
COO/CFO

Pro/LANSync Users:

warningDo not update desktop before contacting your local system administrator. You must FIRST update your server in order to use SI5.5.

(click here for help if you need to undo the SI5.5 desktop update)

Due to significant improvements to licensing and file management functionality, SI5.5 requires that both server and desktops be updated in order to operate. Users updating desktops without updating server first will not be able to use SI5 until the server is updated.

Additionally, due to an update to the server database, it is strongly advised to check in all projects and log off all users prior to updating the server. For this reason we recommend the following steps when upgrading to SI5.5 in a LANSync envronment:

Steps to Update (Pro/LANSync)

  1. All users check in projects and log off

Stand-Alone Users:

warning20Please be aware of the following known issue regarding archive and restore functionality, which applies to stand-alone users only.

Update desktop as desired (Start > D-Tools > Check for Updates)

**The upgrade install process has been tested thoroughly and while we do not anticipate any issues, if you experience any difficulties with your install and you are enrolled in Gold Support please contact support to schedule an appointment for assistance.**

Benefits of Updating to 5.5:

  • New client and contact functionality*
  • New scheduling and service order functionality*
  • New Outlook 2007 integration*
  • Improved licensing and registration
  • Server backup and restore utility*
  • Improved performance in VPN and remote desktop environments
  • Improved look and feel of Navigator interface
  • Customize Order & Scheduling reports*
  • AutoCAD 2009 and Quickbooks 2009 compatibility
  • 20 additional user-suggested enhancements
  • 35 bug fixes

* Pro users only

It is getting very difficult to take you guys seriously as you continuosly steamroll through deadline after deadline, promised date after promised date… it is 3/15/09 6pm. STILL NO POSTING FOR 5.5!!

I understand the need to be carefull with a rollout, but this was targeted for last November- people are trying to make plans around the availablity of this revision. It is better to say nothing than to continuosly disapoint!

I’ve been dissapointed with each major release. I am strongly considering the competition. Chronic release problems and stability issues past release dates. Couple this with on going subscription costs…..

It is now the 17th and still no news of the release. I have been postponing a migration to Terminal Services for a month now when I heard there will be a supported version released on the 3rd. I am the tech for the company and constantly look bad when I have to explain why I keep changing dates. The end users of the software are also dissapointed with the speed and usaibility of the software. If he didn’t drop over 8 grand into the software and support we would be switching to a better product. Come on! Lets get all the beta testing done before a release date is set.

Thank you Steve for calling me so promptly. This was a pleasant surprise and now I feel a little different about what I said. He informed me that the update is being rolled out on an appointment basis and I’m assuming you will be contacted when they are ready to upgrade your company. Heard the new version is more efficient and should resolve our slow issues.

How’s the rollout dictated. Alphabetical? License ID? Purchase Date? This would be helpful and an updated rollout list would be great. I sure I speak for most of the user that we need some advanced notice.

Did you delay the release to New Users?
