APC AV wishes you happiness, health and fortune as we move forward into 2009. In these trying times, setting yourself apart through exceptional customer service is more important than ever. What does customer service mean to you? Of course, there’s the first impression often made via a friendly smile and a willingness to help, but don’t forget that the “lasting” impression is what’s going to get the customer to refer you to friends and call you five, ten, fifteen years later. HAI Now Shipping Access Control Product Line
HAI (Home Automation, Inc.), leading manufacturer of integrated automation and security products since 1985, is now shipping a new line of Access Control products to complement its award-winning home control systems.
The new Access Control product line consists of a proximity card reader (HAI part number 75A00-1) and accessories that connect to an HAI Home Control System. Up to 16 readers can be connected to a serial port on HAI OmniPro II and Lumina Pro controllers. Omni II, Omni IIe, and Lumina controllers allow up to 4 readers. The reader incorporates an input for a push to exit button and an output for an electric door strike or magnetic lock. It can be mounted to a door frame or to any flat wall surface and has simplified wiring for residential or small commercial use – everything between the controller and the readers goes over a single 4 conductor or Cat5 wire, including power. The row of two-color (green and red) LED indicators and piezo sounder on the reader provides card validation and system status to the user.
HAI Access Control cards can also be tied in to any home automation functions that the HAI Omni or Lumina family controller is capable of including lighting, energy management, surveillance, and audio. For example: swiping a card can disarm the alarm, release the door lock, light a pathway into the house, change the temperature, and turn on several zones of a whole home audio system, and select their volume and source. Each swipe can perform as many actions as desired and these results can be customized by time of day, arming condition, or any other event the HAI home control system is monitoring. Because each card or key tag is tied to a specific user, all of the actions can also be customized for each individual user.
HAI Now Shipping All-New Version of PC Access Programming Software
PC Access is the software used to program all HAI Omni and Lumina family home control systems. It allows the user to set up, program, and monitor a home control system over a network, serial or modem connection. HAI offers a dealer version with full access to all set-up items and a simpler end user version for homeowners wanting to program their own HAI system.
There are four versions of the new PC Access 3.0 software available; Dealer PC Access (HAI Part Number 1105W), Spanish Dealer PC Access (HAI Part number 1105WSP), End User PC Access (HAI Part number 1106W), and Lumina PC Access (HAI Part Number 1111). Current registered users of PC Access can upgrade to the new PC Access 3.0 software for free and all registered users of 3.0 will receive future updates for free as well.
HAI products are available through a worldwide network of Distributors and installing dealers. For more information regarding HAI products, please visit http://www.homeauto.com/ or call 800-229-7256.
Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the recognized market leader for rich media webcasting and knowledge management, today announced London Business School, counted among the world’s best according to the Financial Times and BusinessWeek, selected Mediasite as its class capture platform.
“All major business schools are coping with an insatiable demand, primarily student-driven, for video and podcasting,” said Russell Altendorff, Director of Information Systems for London Business School. “The demographics of our students are changing. We see an increasing volume of Executive MBA students who are highly mobile, and with our new centers in Dubai and Hong Kong, over the last two years we increasingly have a whole cohort of students taught abroad and as a result we need to deploy more distributed learning.”
The School had already been filming lectures and events extensively, but sought to automate this process to more efficiently meet the huge demand for a greater volume of filmed classes and events. Staff will begin capturing courses for the Executive MBA program this spring, and the plan is to then scale to record lectures for both Full-Time MBA and Executive Education programs.
“Using Mediasite, we can not only provide online content as a service to our customers, but also as an adjunct way to support the learning process, so learning can occur not only through reading, reflection and face-to-face teaching, but also can be reinforced through access to instruction online,” said Altendorff.
“During our review, we were impressed with the comprehensiveness of the solution, how Mediasite addresses the very real and practical day-to-day demands that we as a support organization meet along the pipeline from class to website,” said Altendorff. “Mediasite offered more administrative tools and diagnostics, more comprehensive features than its competitors, and that was important for us because we aim for 100 percent up time for all technology in a lecture theatre. For us, the more slick the back office is, the better, and Mediasite is a mature and well-developed product.”
“We were equally impressed by the service levels of Sonic Foundry and the quality of Mediasite’s install base. It was very powerful to talk with people who are using Mediasite and have been for some time, and to hear them speak so highly of their experiences with the product and the company,” added Altendorff.
London Business School will integrate the Mediasite EX Server platform within their Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP directories for security and user authorization. Mediasite RL Recorder will be integrated with AMX room control and automation systems in one of the schools major lecture theatres, which also features remote control network cameras, wireless microphones for presenters, two display screens and a new touch screen, light pen PC system. Mediasite ML Recorder will be used in a mobile rack system to capture guest lectures and special events throughout the campus. For more information please visit www.sonicfoundry.com.
Universal Remote Control
Universal Remote Control, the pioneer in control technology, proudly announces its groundbreaking MX-6000 two-way touch screen. The MX-6000 removes menu clutter from the TV screen, aggregates and controls digital media from home PCs and iPods, and makes it all fun and easy to use and install. The MX-6000 brings unparalleled simplicity and automation to home entertainment, and embraces digital media in a unique and powerful new way. Through this single coffee table device, an installer can provide an end user access to all components in a home theater, as well as media on PCs, iPods and other content storage devices in the home. The user never again needs to learn a new interface for every entertainment choice because all components share a consistent logic. The MX-6000 also eliminates menu pollution from the TV screen; users perform all control functions and navigate menus and metadata on the MX-6000 screen while others in the room enjoy TV programming uninterrupted.
The MX-6000 puts menus and cover art in the user’s hands instead of cluttering the TV screen—and it gives any PC an intuitive, friendly A/V server interface. This breakthrough product uses dual RF transmitters—802.11b/g WiFi for network control, plus narrow band RF (radio frequency) for traditional control—to ensure that home theater components don’t suffer the agonizing delay of waiting for the remote to join the home network.
The $1,499 MSRP MX-6000 offers a compelling content management solution by effectively bridging the gap between digital media and the home entertainment system. All of the digital media in the home can be explored, accessed and enjoyed through the MX-6000. There is no longer a need for the user to go to the PC or an iPod for access and control; it’s all there on the MX-6000. For more information, please visit http://www.universalremote.com/.
