Definitive Technology announced that it is rolling out a new brand identity, logo and positioning that complements its products and befits its reputation as the most honored company in high performance loudspeakers for discriminating sound enthusiasts. The audio industry will get its first peek at Definitive’s new aesthetics at the company’s exhibit space, location SR3, at the CEDIA 2012 Expo (Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association), Sept. 6-8 in Indianapolis, and consumers will see the new logo on the brand’s new SoloCinema XTR Sound Bar available at audio and electronics retailers this fall.
“The new brand mark is a reflection and amplification of our brand values. We create beautiful products that precisely replicate natural sound. We wanted to create an emblem we could stand behind that reflected our design values of precision, purity, and intelligent design,” said Paul DiComo, Definitive Technology Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Development.
To hone the look and feel of Definitive Technology, the brand worked closely with the world renowned Frog Design and the DEI Global Design Center, headed by Chief Design Officer Michael DiTullo. We will always be where precision sound meets iconic design.”
Draper Intros New Screen Surface Selection Tool
(Spiceland, Ind.) – When selecting a projection screen surface, there are many variables to consider, including screen gain, surface color and screen material. Matching up screen surface capabilities with room conditions can get complicated very quickly, but Draper Inc. has simplified the process with a powerful new Web tool.
Back to News Directory
Draper’s new screen surface selector takes into account variables such as projector brightness, light on the screen, projector location and specs and more to narrow screen surface choices to “good,” “better” and “best.”
“This new tool is unique to Draper and was entirely designed and developed in house. Our Quality Lab team performed numerous performance tests on each surface for gain, ambient light rejection, contrast, and more, all of which support the logic behind the tool,” according to Draper Advertising Manager Penny Sitler. “Members of our field sales staff provided real world input on the performance of these surfaces in a variety of settings, and our web development team spent many hours integrating the results into an easy-to-use and reliable selector.”
The new screen surface selector was developed using InfoComm standards as a basis for screen selection, and designed to be easy to use by people with basic or advanced AV knowledge.

FSR’s HDMI Wall Plate Extender Sends Signals Further at an Appealing Price
Woodland Park, NJ (September 25, 2012) — FSR, manufacturer of audio and video switching, control products, and connectivity boxes, has added the HDMI Wall Plate Extender to its new Digital Video (DV) family of products, a line aimed at professional installations requiring HDMI support. The new extender consists of a single gang Decora style wall plate transmitter and a matching receiver capable of extending HDMI signals at 1080p up to 165 feet. The HDMI Wall Plate Extender joins dozens of new FSR products being offered at extremely attractive price points.
The HDMI Wall Plate Extender has an HDMI input on the front and 2 punch down blocks for CAT x cables on the back. Punching down the CAT x cable directly to the interface has several advantages, not the least of which is the cost savings of paying to have the cable terminated. In addition, this style of connection saves space in the electrical box and reduces the strain introduced by a tight cable radius when terminated cables are used.
The HDMI Wall Plate Extender is available in white, black and ivory to match existing décor.

Schneider Electric’s Uninterruptible Power Supply Products First to Achieve ENERGY STAR® Qualification
Power protection devices achieve inaugural approval in ENERGY STAR program’s new category
Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, announced select Back-UPS™ and Smart-UPS™ (uninterruptible power supply) models have become the first-ever UPSs to earn the ENERGY STAR qualification under the federal program’s new UPS category. Acknowledged for meeting standardized energy efficiency requirements and passing the program’s testing, the selected Smart-UPS and Back-UPS products have been recognized for their abilities to both save customers money while helping to protect the environment.
“Schneider Electric has committed to lead in the industry in energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.” said Laurent Vernerey, Executive Vice President of Schneider Electric’s IT Business. “Customers rely on APC by Schneider Electric’s UPSs to provide safe, dependable protection from downtime and hardware damage. Earning the ENERGY STAR mark for our products solidifies our ability to operate at high efficiency without sacrificing reliability.”
Jointly established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE), the ENERGY STAR program is aimed at reducing pollutants caused by the inefficient use of energy, while also making it easy for consumers to identify and purchase energy efficient products. Companies inducted into the program exemplify a commitment to developing offerings which empower customers to capitalize on the operational and financial benefits inherent in energy management.
In addition to delivering significant overall savings and providing critical, reliable functions within small to medium businesses and homes, the Schneider Electric Smart-UPS and Back-UPS were qualified by an independent laboratory on the following criteria to become marked as ENERGY STAR:
- Efficiency: UPS products considered must achieve operational efficiency in the top 25 percent of the market, thus allowing customers to realize lower electrical operating costs and a smaller carbon footprint;
- Performance Tested: All UPS products are subject to the EPA’s ENERGY STAR test procedure, under the supervision of a third-party certification body; and,
- Published Results: UPS products must achieve specific test results, including efficiencies at 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent loads, as well as no load losses and other characteristics which are published on the EPA’s web site, http://www.epa.gov/.
“We are pleased to extend the ENERGY STAR certification to energy efficient UPS products as part of our effort to promote efficiency in data centers,” said Robert Meyers, Data Center Product Manager, ENERGY STAR. “As data center equipment becomes more environmentally friendly, we’re thrilled to include this new product category, as well as further promote the ability of companies across industries to make informed, transparent decisions around purchasing energy-conscious equipment.”
Furthering its commitment to making the choice for energy efficient equipment simple and clear, Schneider Electric also plans to pursue ENERGY STAR certification for additional UPS products over the next year. SUNFIRE® MAKES BASS INVISIBLE WITH DEBUT OF IN-WALL 8” SUBWOOFER AT CEDIA EXPO 2012
The new HRSIW8 utilizes Sunfire’s patented Stillbass™ anti-shake technology to provide 520W of stunning bass from an enclosure that literally disappears into the wall, creating a seamless home theater experience.
Sunfire®, a specialist in the design, manufacturing and marketing of luxury home theater audio products, announced the introduction of the all-new Sunfire HRSIW8, an in-wall dual-driver 8” subwoofer that features the brand’s patented Stillbass™ anti-shake technology that virtually eliminates mechanical vibration, improving bass definition while helping to contain the bass to the room in which it is mounted. The Stillbass technology, coupled with Sunfire’s trademark High Back-emf designed woofers, helps provide pounding audiophile-grade bass from a subwoofer that easily retrofits into a standard 16” on-center stud bay. The announcement was made at CEDIA EXPO 2012 in Booth #902 of the Indiana Convention Center.
According to Sunfire General Manager Mark Weisenberg, “Every day, the engineers and designers at Sunfire are developing new ways to deliver what home owners want from their home entertainment experience; dynamic, accurate bass without donating large amounts of space in the process. We have accomplished that with the HRSIW8. Combining our legacy technologies with our latest thinking in subwoofer power and control, the HRSIW8 is simple to install. Setup is straightforward using Sunfire’s Digital amplifier platform, which includes a wide array of optional adjustments for maximum performance. Now our dealers will be able to specify a budget conscious, high performance in-wall subwoofer that delivers on our brand promise.”
The HRSIW8 features two custom-designed 8” long-throw woofers using ultra low mass fiberglass cones in a sealed cabinet that measures 12.2”W x 24.7”H x 3.75”D, and only requires a wall cutout of 10.6”W x 23.5”H. With six built-in dog-toggle style wall clamps it is a perfect solution for both retrofits and new construction jobs, easily fitting in any standard 16” on-center stud bay. A wire channel is provided on the rear of the enclosure to avoid pinching the wire between the enclosure and the back of the drywall inside the opening. Easily removable magnetic grilles and a cutout template for easy installation are provided.
The HRSIW8’s external rack-mount amplifier is an evolution of the Sunfire digital amplifier used in the company’s SDS subwoofer line. Using Sunfire’s Frequency Filtration Design (FFD) for high fidelity bass, the amp delivers 520W of power with near zero distortion. A wide range of filtering adjustments are included as well as DSP with room equalization and a remote control that provides one-touch access to preset equalizer modes.
The HRSIW8 has an MSRP of $1,700 and features a frequency response of 33Hz-150Hz, maximum output of 106dB, balanced and unbalanced line level inputs, gold plated speaker terminals and adjustable high-pass and low pass filters.
The continuing “Science of Sunfire” is the direct result of a design philosophy originally pioneered by Bob Carver that has become codified by the brand. This unique approach to design has resulted in amazingly compact high performance subwoofers that combine the best electronics and acoustics with specialized, premium materials to
