Custom Integrators from the Dallas/Fort Worth area came out to the Hyatt Regency DFW on Tuesday to learn about the state of the industry and 10 new Opportunities for integrators at the Power of Four Summer Tour, presented by SpeakerCraft, Lutron, Monster, and D-Tools.

Tim Costello, President and CEO of BDX and Builder Homsite shared some sobering statistics about our current economic outlook and how integrators can’t simply wait around for things to get better – and outlined some ways for attendees to think outside the box about how they are approaching their business.

As part of the day-long workshop, there were discussions about how to best take advantage of the new opportunities available to integrators – including: Operational Excellence, Selling to Gen Y, Aging in Place, the new minority majority, and others. The interactive event gave some immediate takeaways and the response from the attendees was very positive. “This was a very worthwhile event,” said Doug Smith, of Architectural Electronics, who drove up from Houston to attend. “The content presented was very relevant – while it was very obvious to think about eliminating waste, I wasn’t really thinking about waste. And we have a process, but it isn’t documented. I am going to take these immediately back to my business. I would advise anyone considering attending one of the other three tour stops to do so.”

Sherri Griffin, president of Addison, Texas-based Home Theater Design Group, commented: “Today was awesome. It was about our business. It was not about selling a particular product, it was about how to make me a better business owner. Even though I’ve been doing this for 15 years, I learned a lot of great stuff.”

The event grew from Jeremy Burkhardt from SpeakerCraft and Jeff Zemanek of Lutron seeing Tim’s presentation at the CEDIA Management Conference and coming away from it thinking – “it would be great to be able to get together and drill down on these opportunities – let’s put something together and take it to our dealers across the country.” They then recruited D-Tools and Monster and the plans were set.

The next Power of Four Tour stop takes place on Thursday July 21 at the Lutron Experience Center in Irvine, CA. While this tour stop is at capacity, there are still seats available for the remaining two events, Tuesday July 26th in Teaneck, NJ and Thursday July 28th in Miami FL.
