Cool that small closet… with a Cool-cube in-line ventilating system. Larger than many of our cabinet cooling systems, smaller than our System 1 in-line air mover, the Cool-cube is available with 4″ or 3″ tubing and is just the right size for cooling either a “coat” size closet with the typical assortment of A-V gear or a video projector (up to about 400 watts) in a soffit or box. There is a 2″ tubing option also, for use only with video projectors.
All Cool-cubes come with a two-speed temperature-sensitive speed control and remote probe, which turns them on in low-speed mode at 90 degrees, switching to full speed at 100 degrees. (In low-speed mode, both the starting temperature and speed are adjustable.)
An important note:
We were talking to an integrator recently who told us he was planning to vent an A/V closet into an adjacent garage. We’ve heard of similar plans before, and have always warned our customers that many localities have strict rules about creating openings between a residence and a garage.
These rules and regulations may vary from place to place, and we’re not experts on the subject, but the potential problems are easy to see. Besides the inconvenience and discomfort of bringing hot or cold air, bugs, and petroleum product odors in from the garage, (not to mention fire!), there is a real possibility of also bringing in carbon monoxide fumes. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, and very dangerous gas; it recently killed 4 young adults in Maine who left a gasoline generator running in the basement overnight.
There are always alternatives to venting into the garage, alternatives that would be far safer. Our engineers would be glad to help you find safe ways to lose the heat – and keep the client.

Murfie is now available in the 5.2 firmware release enabling dealers to update all Mirage Music Players in the field via the Autonomic Dealer Zone.
Draper, Inc. has announced new, larger sizes for its award-winning TecVision Engineered Surface Technology line.
Optically Seamless TecVision screens are now available up to 23 feet high and 69 feet wide.
“When we introduced TecVision we limited the sizes to 15 feet in viewing height because 15 feet was the largest we could provide without traditional seams,” according to Bob Mathes, AV/Video Sales & Marketing Manager for Draper, Inc. “We decided that we should leverage our seaming expertise along with our state of the art TecVision technology to come up with a way to make bigger surfaces.”
Instead of using traditional seams, or taking the very expensive approach of having a seamless substrate, Draper took a different path.
“We decided to fuse a base substrate which resulted in a flatter base material with a stronger weld,” says Mathes. “With the ideal substrate perfected we could then use our TecVision formulation process to create a perfect and optically seamless viewing surface.”
Mathes says Draper is so confident in its new Optically Seamless TecVision sizes that if there is a defect, including anything resulting from the fusion process, visible to the naked eye or under projection more than five feet away from the audience side of any TecVision screen, the company will take back the surface.

IHIJI REMOTE NETWORK MANAGEMENT SERVICE MAKES CLIENT CARE PROFITABLE
A respected and profitable Central Virginia based integrator operating in the both the commercial and residential AV sectors gets 80 percent of its business from direct customer referrals. With word of mouth proving a powerful tool for generating business how does such a successful company, with around a thousand new projects every year, manage an ever-growing clientele and keep customer referrals high?
This particular integration company, which is a CEPro 100 firm, uses a client care program (CCP) centralized around Ihiji invision network management service. They have been selling Ihiji remote network monitoring software for a few years now, offering well developed client care program for which they charge clients $49.99 a month. Invision network monitoring software from Ihiji offers the client the reassurance of knowing that the integrator can securely and proactively manage their home network, troubleshooting and re-booting IP enabled devices remotely as when needed.
What’s most striking is that even if this integrator signed only half its 1,000 new yearly customers up to their client plan, that would mean billings of nearly $300,000 per year on recurring monthly revenue (RMR) alone—not including the price of Ihiji network appliances. Not only is this a great additional source of revenue for their businesses, it’s a huge benefit for the client, as it spares them the expense of an inconvenient, far more costly, service call.
“The service really resonates well with existing customers because they know what it is like to be reactive and call at the eleventh hour when they are having a problem,” said the company owner. So far, the firm’s truck rolls and onsite service calls are down by more than 80%. The company’s owner says this makes a huge difference for the productivity of its technicians.

High Resolution System UDC Software in Washington D.C. and Seattle
Drew Barry tapped his UDC software for single screen general sessions at the Oracle Content conference, presented by Oracle in Washington D.C. The gathering brought together customers and opinion leaders who conduct research and develop primary sources of information used to formulate and validate decisions.
Barry customized his UDC system to control DT Videolabs’ PlaybackPro machines, two AJA Ki Pro video recorders and two Image Pros; he used the UDC-R remote application for PowerPoint control.
During the course of the event operators and projectionists were redeployed so Barry ultimately found himself alone running the general sessions for the various producers involved. “I just put all the device control into UDC and drove the sessions from one position on my iPad. From UDC I was running all playback, record and graphics,” he explains.
Barry also suggested UDC to control all the AV for the Alaska Airlines facility in Seattle. The UDC software controls six viewing areas with attendee interaction, he reports.

Our neighbor south of the Rio Grande keeps coming up in my conversations. Over the past few days I have been remotely monitoring a Torus Power unit installed in a vacation rental in Cabo San Lucas. Yesterday I received a phone call and an email message, from two different customers, both asking about requirements for electronic equipment in Mexico.
There is conflicting information regarding electricity in Mexico. Many “authorities” say the voltage is 120V, some say it’s 110V and others say it’s 127V. My best conclusion is the nominal voltage is 127V – the phase-to-neutral voltage found in a three-phase 127/220 configuration. Yesterday I spoke with a Torus Power dealer who is quoting a job in Mexico City where, he said, the voltage can range from below 90V to above 130V. Fortunately everyone agrees that the line frequency in Mexico is 60Hz.
To quote some near-forgotten comic book hero, “This looks like a job for…” Torus Power! Our AVR models are a very good fit for situations like the Mexico City scenario above. Our 120V AVR models can deliver a regulated 120V ± 5V with input voltage ranging anywhere from 90V to 130V. What’s more, the user can choose whether or not the unit will shut down if the input voltage drops or rises beyond the 90V to 130V range. If the unit is set to not shut down on voltage extremes, it will continue to operate, but the output regulation will be reduced.
Our North American ‘BAL’ models are also a great fit for this environment. Input voltage can range anywhere from 180V to 260V (the nominal 220V ± 40V or 18.18%) and output will be a regulated 120V ± 5V. Once again, the user can choose whether or not the unit will shut down if the input voltage drops or rises beyond the 180V to 260V range.
Mexican citizens and expatriates from the USA and Canada almost always use AV equipment designed for 120V. Torus Power transformers always enhance the performance of audio and video equipment by providing a clean and noise-free power source. Torus Power AVR models offer extra protection, not just from surges but from voltage swings as well.
Voltage fluctuations are not unique to Mexico. I have spoken with dealers and end users in places – like Bel Air, Beverly Hills and La Jolla California – where you would never expect to find extreme voltage swings. In scenarios like these it seems the utilities haven’t been able to keep up with the ever-growing demand for power. Fortunately, Torus Power AVR units do a great job on both sides of the border – and beyond.
The New Series 4 Terminated Speaker Cable Line-up
4BW Star Quad Bi-Wire Speaker Cable
Designed for use with high performance bi-wire speaker systems, Tributaries Series 4 Bi-wire cable, model 4BW is made with the Star-Quad SP4BW. It is designed to delight the most discerning audiophile. What is Star-Quad geometry? Simply put, Star-Quad geometry consists of four conductors wound together in a “positive, negative, positive, negative” configuration. The result is the cancellation of opposing electromagnetic fields generated by each conductor pair. This design improves the system’s performance by preventing EMI noise from entering and distorting the signal. For improved sound clarity and sound stage the SP4BW is also made with propriety cable geometry designed to reduce distortion. Each conductor is constructed with 6 bundles of stranded wire wound around a larger solid center conductor that is insulated with a precision formulated PE dielectric. This design ensures low- loss, superior imaging and maximum definition. In addition, the SP4BW is a hybrid Bi-Wire made with two 14AWG conductors which are designed for connection to the low frequency loudspeaker driver terminals while two 16AWG conductors are designed for connection to the high frequency terminals. At the amplifier end two 12AWG conductors are achieved by combining one 14AWG and one 16AWG conductor for superior power handling capabilities. The 4BW is available terminated using your choice of BP101 banana plugs and/or SL8 spade lugs.
4SP Star-Quad 2 Channel Speaker Cables
The 4SP 2 channel speaker cable is made with the 4 conductor Star-Quad SP4BW. By combining the 14AWG and 16AWG conductors this cable achieves a 12AWG two channel speaker cable resulting in higher current capability and an increase in low frequency performance. The 4SP is available terminated using the same choice of BP101 or SL8 connectors. The Star-Quad configuration has been designed to reduce noise from EMI interference and improve the cable’s electrical performance while decreasing distortion. With a lower noise floor – you can really hear details in the sound that were previously muted.
4SP14 Standard 2 Channel Speaker Cables
Last but not least, 4SP14 cables were designed for those systems that require a high performance 14AWG speaker cable. Like the rest of the Series 4 cables, 4SP14’s 2 different gauges within each jacket will, when compared to single gauge speaker wire, improve bass, mid and high frequency response. Designed in a low profile black UL® CL2 rated jacket this cable is ideal for in-wall speakers where performance above standard CI 14/2 is needed to achieve the best possible audio experience for the installation. This siamese speaker cable is also available terminated with BP101 banana plugs and SL8 spade lugs.

WyreStorm, a global manufacturer and leading adopter of HDBaseT and IP technology specializing in innovative 4K/HD video distribution solutions, held their first annual distributor conference for WyreStorm sales partners at their new European showroom in Barcelona, Spain.
WyreStorm’s purpose-built showroom was the venue for the first WyreStorm distributor conference held recently in the Catalan capital. Completed just prior to the event, the showroom itself covers approximately 5000 ft2 and was designed to afford invited consultants, designers, specifiers and key integrators from all across Europe the opportunity to view the full range of WyreStorm products in situ, including HDBaseT 4K Class A, Class B and Modular matrices and extenders, Enado and Enado Mini control, NetworkHD IP solutions and the WyreStorm Express range.
Such an opportunity was not lost on the WyreStorm sales partners invited to attend their first distributor conference in May, with 35 delegates from 24 EMEA markets as far afield as Egypt, Israel and South Africa attending two days of presentations, demonstrations, workshops, trainings and product overviews; including the full WyreStorm 4K range, the new NetworkHD 100-Series and 200-Series H.264 IP solutions and a pre-launch of InfoComm 2015 with some exciting new developments.
Following an evening of attendee acclimatization, the conference began in earnest the following morning in the showroom’s 40-seater auditorium with information on the company, structure and marketing by Adrian Ickeringill, followed by an overview of US operations by WyreStorm’s new Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Hal Truax, and an explanation of sales channels by UK Sales Manager, Phil Gibbs.
As active supporters of their distributors, WyreStorm didn’t want the conference to be all about them, and the final day was given over to their sales partners with engaging and informative presentations from Fabio Genoni of Pixel Engineering (Italy), Fredrik Nylander of Kavena (Sweden) and Stuart Leader of Polar Audio (UK), covering topics as varied as products, distribution, local markets, installations and sharing experiences and opinions on maximizing sales, trends and where they see the industry heading.
