extended_lib_largeDid you know that the D-Tools Extended Library, available in D-Tools SIX, contains product data for over 1,000,000 low-voltage products? Maintained by our third-party vendor, etilize, the Extended Library contains product data that the standard D-Tools library does not have.

There are a few tricks for using the Extended Library to its’ fullest extent,. Because of the way it is indexed, Extended Library data isn’t seen together with standard library data, and searching through it requires different techniques to find information.

So, here are some tips:

1. Get Data Subscription

Data subscription is required to access the Extended Library, so you will need this add-on service for access. Data subscription also gives you the ability to download all data in the standard library, as well as request new data to be added, so unless you already have a great data source, data subscription is a no-brainer. Fortunately, data subscription is now included with Software Assurance, so most users already have this without any additional cost.

2. Open the Extended Library after browsing the standard library

The data browser, when opened, initially only shows data from the standard library. Click on the Extended Library button in the ribbon to expand your search to the Extended Library.

3. Use the Search Box

In the Extended Library, using the search box is the way to go. Type in the manufacturer name or model number you’re looking for, and let the software do the rest. Searching with manufacturer name is particularly useful.

The search bar has two options – global search, and filtered search. Filtered search only shows results from a specific category. So, if you’re not getting any results, try clicking on the Search drop-down and choosing ‘Search All Products’. Very often this will solve the problem and you’ll find what you’re looking for.

5. Use the Download button in the ribbon to get it all

Want to get all of the data for the page of results you’re looking at? Just go to the ribbon, select Download and then New and Matched. This will automatically download all of the data on the page and merge it with your existing database. You’re ready to go.
