I'm the VP of Sales and Marketing here at D-Tools. I have been fortunate to have worked with some great people over the past 20 years at such companies as Macromedia, Equilibrium, and Scene7. Prior to that I was a co-founder Morph’s Outpost, a technical trade publication for interactive media developers, and I started my career in television at TV 20 in San Francisco. 2009 – Getcha Head in the Game

OK, for any of you who have pre-teen children and the Disney Channel, you may recognize the title of this post. If you don’t, then it really doesn’t matter. The point is this: 2008 is over. Done. Behind us. It’s time to focus on the year ahead and what we can do to improve. Improve what you might ask? Well that is entirely up to you.

Be Thankful – and Drive Change

As we head into the Thanksgiving holiday it may be a little harder to think about all of things we have to be thankful for, given the hits that our market has taken, the state of the economy, the mounting job losses….wait that’s not where I was going with this. Yes, it’s been a difficult year. But we’ve had difficult years before and somehow we get through it. I’m not saying that it is easy right now, because it isn’t. We have to work harder for every deal, we may have to offer additional services at no charge that we were used to charging for, or make less on every job.

Don’t Fear the Process

If change is good, why do so many people have a natural aversion to it? Is it really “better the devil you know?” Change can be scary and intimidating, but one thing for sure is that it is constant, and depending on your perspective, can be the difference between success and failure. Reluctance to adapt to changes around you (many of which are beyond your control, such as our current economic and business climate for example) or plain stubborn refusal to change due to long-held beliefs have doomed countless companies, relationships and even entire careers.

Refine and Conquer

The word for today is refine. We are currently undergoing an overhaul of our internal processes, which you can read all about here. We have implemented Zoho as our CRM to help us better manage and control communicating with our prospects, customers and partners. I won’t go too much into that because Adam is documenting our process and will continue to add to this category as we continue to move forward with our Zoho implementation.
